Auckland Pride Takatāpui Representative Application form

Kei aku nui, kei aku rahi, tēnā tātou te hunga takatāpui o Tāmaki Makaurau.

We are looking for enthusiastic Takatāpui Māori to join the Auckland Pride Board as the Takatāpui Representative, to help shape and grow the festival to better reflect and serve the Takatāpui community in Tāmaki Makaurau.

The Auckland Pride Board is made up of individuals from across the rainbow community and is primarily responsible for the Auckland Pride Festival’s governance, strategic direction and finances, ensuring the delivery of an outstanding festival every year that celebrates the rich diversity of our communities.

As part of Auckland Pride’s commitment to increase the voices of Takatāpui Māori at the governance level, Auckland Pride have created a position on the board for a Takatāpui Representative. This is an opportunity to advocate for greater inclusion of Māori in the Auckland Pride Festival, and to establish and maintain a strong relationship between Takatāpui Māori and the festival, to ensure the voices of tangata whenua are heard and considered at the highest level. It will also involve working in collaboration with a Takatāpui Māori Advisory Committee (once established) on kaupapa Māori based initiatives.

Auckland Pride is seeking someone with a passion for serving Takatāpui and Māori Communities, and has the ability to dedicate time and energy towards guiding the growth and direction of that community’s inclusion in the Auckland Pride Festival over the next few years. Any who are passionate about shaping and improving the Festival, and wanting to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should support the strategic goals and focus areas of Auckland Pride Festival Inc. All applicants must complete this short application form sharing their experience and the reason for their interest. Please include:

  • Your pepeha
  • Your vision for the festival. What would you like to grow or change about how Takatāpui are represented in the Auckland Pride Festival?
  • Your level of understanding of te reo Māori (helpful but not required).
  • Any experience engaging with Takatāpui Māori and Tangata Whenua communities(helpful but not required).
  • Any experience in governance (helpful but not required).

As per the constitution, if applicants are not already members of Auckland Pride, they are required to become a member via membership.aucklandpride.org.nz/

Applications should be sent no later than 5pm Friday 25 September, 2020. For more information, please email takatapui@aucklandpride.org.nz.
